PROLI
JAZZ QUARTETT
Their musical world emerged from the blues and rock of the 1960s and 1970s.
They cannot deny the influence of their upbringing in socialist Europe, in a culture shaped by others, on their music.
A bridge from Western trends to Eastern European music through Hungarian reality: This is proletarian jazz.
The Proli Jazz Quartet began with saxophonist Sándor Tóth and pianist Norbert Kerek playing together. The two first played together on a ship in the Caribbean. They were joined by drummer Flóra Joubert and double bassist Árpád Vajdovich, who was replaced by bassist György Frey starting in the summer of 2024.
After a few performances together, it became clear that each of them could take this band seriously... And then they began to take it seriously. Of course, only to the extent that the joy and freedom of making music together remained intact.
